February Monthly Report
This month, I was able to conduct an interview with Nepali researcher Dr. Dolendra Khadka and others leader of the ethnic community. Aside from this, I was able to discuss the current political development with the ethnic base community that voiced in favor of an ethnic based federalism, set up on a new constitution during the so-called state reform. In addition to that, I had the opportunity to conduct an interview with Nepali migrate persons from during the insurgence.
I also carried out my regular visit with my mentor professor, Dr. Lawrence, and reported on my progress on my research and received his suggestions. This month, I was reading books and looked at reports related to the chapter of my dissertation. So far, I read the book, The Constitution of equality: Democratic Authority and its Limits by Thomas Christiano. I was able to find the conceptual framework to evaluate Nepali social justice and much talked about issue of equality and democracy. To understand the degree of social and political institutions, first we should analyze the empirical aspect of the society and its institutions so that it's easier to find out the basic facts of the system. Christiano hightlights this: In regards to the examination of democracy, he mentions that we should understand the exact implication of democratic principles, such as, "the proper relationships between democratic and liberal rights in order to have solid foundation for construction of a constitutional order."
